These cloth cyanotype prints were created in collaboration with visitors to the Grand Canyon as public outreach through the artist-in-residence program of the Grand Canyon Conservancy. The artworks offer collective wishes for the abundance and well- being of the native fish of the Colorado River and the health of its ecosystem.
The five remaining native fish found in the park today and pictured in the artwork are the: Humpback Chub, the Razorback Sucker, the Bluehead Sucker, Flannelmouth Sucker and Speckled Dace. Many of the native fish are found only in the Colorado River basin and more than one species is threatened or endangered. Some species live thirty to forty years or more and others travel long distances to and from spawning areas.
